New Item-DeKalb County
Mark Rivkin hopes a much-needed turn signal can be installed soon.
“When traveling southbound on Oak Grove Road, a left-turn signal is needed to facilitate left turns onto LaVista Road. This is because oncoming northbound traffic from Oak Grove Drive is persistent during peak traffic times and causes would-be left-turners to wait through several light changes to make the turn,” Rivkin wrote.
He said the intersection was changed in the fall and went from a dog-leg of Oak Grove Road crossing LaVista Road where it becomes Oak Grove Drive. “Now Oak Grove Road, instead of dog-legging, crosses straight over LaVista Road to Oak Grove Drive. Previously, northbound and southbound traffic across LaVista Road had their own traffic signals, but now that they share the same signal. Relief (in the form of a left-turn signal) is needed for those who travel southbound on Oak Grove Road and need to turn left onto LaVista Road.
We sent the item to DeKalb County and will keep you posted on the progress.

New item-Atlanta
A reader alerted us to an issue on the southside of town.
“Right after you turn off Camp Creek Parkway onto Welcome All Connector and turn left at the stop sign onto Welcome All Road there are several potholes in the street and on the bridge that continue to deteriorate. They have been patched countless times in the eight years that I have driven this way to work but nothing has really been ‘done’ about the whole situation. Whenever the holes are not patched it is like playing a game of dodgeball in your car — you dodge a pothole but risk hitting a car/truck, or you avoid a car that is avoiding a pothole however you hit a pothole because of dodging the car,” the reader wrote.
We sent the issue to the city and got back a quick response.
“The Welcome All Connector is a high traffic road that is regularly traveled by heavy equipment trucks. The Department of Public Works is working to secure funds to resurface Welcome All Road, and is committed to performing temporary repairs to address potholes until the funds are available. The last point repair was approximately three months ago at Welcome all Road and Fairburn Road. Work is currently being scheduled to repair other potholes along the road, said the city’s press information officer Jewanna Gaither.

New item-Pharr Road
Russell Jacobs hopes something can be done about Pharr Road.
“After an extended period of time with very poor road conditions, the city finally paved Pharr Road earlier this year. However, they have not gone back and re-painted the divider lines. This has created dangerous driving situations as it makes it difficult for drivers to see the proper lanes, especially at night and/or in the rain. It has been over two months since the paving was completed and I’m not sure why the re-striping has not yet occurred,” said Jacobs.
We got a quick answer back from the city.
“The Department of Public Works conducted a field assessment in response to the community’s concerns about the street striping. The assessment found that additional striping was needed at the intersection of Pharr and Old Decatur roads. The Department of Public Works scheduled a crew to work to install additional temporary striping at Old Decatur Road [on April 27],” said the city’s press information officer Jewanna Gaither.
