New item-Downtown Atlanta

Steve Siler hopes something can be done about a serious issue in the heart of downtown.

“There is a storm sewer at the southwest corner of Peachtree Center Avenue and John Portman Boulevard downtown that is regularly backed up. Standing water blocks the crosswalk and forces pedestrians to negotiate the street to get around the puddles,” he wrote.

New item…and Update!

Margo Gold wrote us about an accident literally waiting to happen.

“There is no longer any directional signage at the Moores Mill Road on-ramp to Interstate 75 north. I live on Moores Mill Road and as I exited I-75 recently, I was nearly hit head-on by a car turning into the off-ramp, rather than the on-ramp,” she wrote.

Gold explained the two lanes are adjacent side-by-side and there is no signage indicating one lane is the off-ramp and the other the on-ramp.

“In fact, the car that almost hit me was turning left into the off-ramp right hand turn lane where it meets Moores Mill. This is so dangerous. A driver only learns they are in the wrong lane once they go around the curve. There is nothing that separates the two lanes where they intersect with Moores Mill,” she added.

We got a quick response from the DOT who said the department plans to refresh and extend striping at the exit, install raised pavement markers and insure that ‘Wrong Way’ and ‘Do Not Enter’ signs are appropriately installed.

Fixed! Atlanta

In early March, we told you about Paul Blackney’s complaint about a sidewalk in Buckhead. Blackney sent us a pic of a guide wire smack in the middle of a sidewalk.

“Infrastructure in Buckhead from Piedmont south along Peachtree and other streets is in great need of repair. Even more amazing is that new hazards are being added to the detriment of people who try to walk in the area. Here is a picture of a new hazard to walkers and runners recently installed on East Andrews Drive,” he wrote. City officials said Georgia Power had removed the wire and sent us before and after pics.
