A tag office in Marietta closed July 25 and will stay that way for a few months during renovations.

The Motor Vehicle Division satellite location at 2932 Canton Road in the Market Square Shopping Center will re-open in the fall, according to the Cobb County Tax Commissioner's website.

After the revamp, it will be able to handle property taxes and not just motor vehicle issues, according to the tax office.

“We are re-configuring our current space to address service capacity and safety for taxpayers and staff,” said the tax office said when asked for details. “There will be modifications to the security system, additional service stations as well as improvements to technology for enhancements to our customer service.”

Ross Cavitt, county spokesman, said the cost of the overhaul will be paid with $300,000 of funds left over from the 2017 budget.
