SWAT teams thought they had cornered the fourth suspect in an execution-style double slaying, but the house they surrounded Monday afternoon turned out to be empty.

SWAT teams from Fulton County and College Park surrounded a house on Demooney Road. They believed 23-year-old Christopher Lorenzo Varner -- wanted in the July 18 killings of two women -- might be inside because his sister’s car was parked outside, College Park police Sgt. Eddie Atkins said. And Varner had been seen driving it.

“After exhausting all means to communicate with him, they found nobody was in the home,” Atkins said.

At 5 p.m., police were executing a search warrant at the house.

On July 19, Lanaetria Renee Butler, 28, and Karida Winkler, 34, were found shot to death inside their apartment on Godby Road. One was found in the dining room, the other in the kitchen. Each had been shot once in the head.

Police said the motive was robbery but would not disclose what was taken.

Police quickly arrested Boubacar Tradre, 18, Anthony Wilder, 19 and Carnell Owens, 19. They were charged with murder and are being held without bond at the College Park jail.
