The Suwanee City Council voted Tuesday to approve a $686,995 contract for renovation of Pierce’s Corner in Old Town Suwanee. The property, as outlined by the Downtown Development Authority, is located within the city’s designated Old Town Overlay District and will be subject to its design standards. They believe renovation of Pierce’s Corner will serve as a catalyst for growth and development in the area. Buildings will be in close proximity to the street, storefront retail design, wide walkways and sidewalks, on-street or behind-the-building parking, and focus on pedestrian design.

The Pierce’s Corner property sits on approximately a 0.37-acre lot at 597 Main Street at the corner of Scales Road. The 6,000-square-foot, two-story brick building was built in 1910 as a general store. Attached to the brick building is an annex, of approximately 2,000 square feet, which is expected to be demolished. There is also a shed on the lot, dating back to at least the 1920’s.

C.B. Summer Construction of Roswell will handle the renovation.
