A man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase that began in DeKalb County and ended with a crash in southwest Atlanta was in court Tuesday night.
Sanchez D. Tenny, 24, talked to Channel 2 Action News before his bond hearing in DeKalb Magistrate Court.
"I'm sorry to everybody (whose) lives I put in danger, as well as the officers," he said.
Tenny faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault on police, obstruction, felony fleeing and eluding, super speeder, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and open container, authorities said.
A judge set his bond at $3,000 on each of his nine charges.
Tenny told Channel 2 that he blacked out when officers pulled him over.
Monday's incident started shortly before 5 p.m. after an officer stopped Tenny on a seat belt violation in Stone Mountain, DeKalb police said.
The car he was driving matched the description of a four-door, dark-color sedan that had been used in several robberies, and the suspect took off when the officer approached the vehicle, authorities said.
The chase, at speeds police said were up to 100 mph, ended when Tenny crashed into the median of Langford Parkway near Stanton Road during rush hour.
Footage from a Channel 2 Action News chopper showed the suspect driving erratically through the southbound lanes of I-85, sometimes driving into the emergency lanes, just prior to crashing.
Tenny was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and then released into police custody.
Police said Tenny already was on probation for driving on a suspended license in another county.
Channel 2 said he also was on probation for a burglary in Louisiana.
His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 30, the report said.
