A motorist involved in a police chase on the Downtown Connector Thursday afternoon is facing multiple charges, the Georgia State Patrol said.
Glen Maurice Fannin, 39, of Savannah, has been charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, aggravated assault on a police officer, and driving on the wrong side of the roadway, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said. While he was attempting to flee, Fannin's 1995 Chevrolet C15 SUV rammed a patrol car from behind, which led to the aggravated assault charge, Wright said.
Fannin was the only injury reported in the incident, Wright said. He was checked by EMS after complaining of neck and back pain, Wright said.
Passenger Steven Davis was charged with criminal attempt of theft, criminal damage to property, prowling and criminal trespass, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Authorities said Fannin refused to pull over and Atlanta police notified the Georgia State Patrol, which made a traffic stop by blocking an exit ramp at Langford Parkway south of downtown, the APD's John Chafee said.
The GSP said Fannin fled down University Avenue to Cleveland Avenue, where he turned around and began to drive north in the southbound lane of the Downtown Connector.
Southbound lanes of the Downtown Connector were stopped or slowed by the chase.
The investigation has been turned over to the Atlanta police, Wright said.
