The suspect in the shooting death of a woman on I-20 and I-285 on Monday waived his first court appearance on Wednesday.
Corey Deshun Jones, 28, was charged with felony murder and aggravated assault on Monday evening. Police were called to I-20 westbound near I-285 southbound around 3:40 p.m. Monday after a passerby called 911, Atlanta police Capt. Paul Guerrucci said.
They found 25-year-old Tyana Boyd shot in a silver Volkswagen Passat that was pulled over to the left shoulder of the interstate. Two left lanes of I-20 westbound were closed near I-285 southbound as part of the investigation, backing up traffic for hours.
Boyd was taken to Grady, where she died.
Jones was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Tuesday after a short stay at Grady Memorial Hospital Tuesday morning. Atlanta police spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy said she did not know why Jones was at the hospital.
Police said they believe Boyd and Jones were outside the vehicle when the incident occurred.
Police have not determined a motive and the investigation is continuing.
Jones’ next hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on April 9.
