Police on Wednesday arrested a man sought in connection with the stabbing and robbery of a MARTA bus driver last week, a spokesman for the transit agency said.

Everett Tyrone Sloan, 28, has been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and bus hijacking, MARTA spokesman Lyle V. Harris said.

Described by police as armed and dangerous, Sloan was taken into custody without incident near Gresham Road and I-20, Harris said. He was apprehended by a MARTA police officer who is part of the U.S. Marshals Service task force.

"MARTA police had been tracking him and finally were able to effect an arrest at around 2 p.m.," the spokesman said.

Sloan lives in DeKalb County and has a felony record, Harris said. Details of the man's past arrests were not immediately available Wednesday evening. The suspect was being held in DeKalb County jail pending a preliminary hearing.

Bus driver Janet Royston, 52, a six-year veteran of the transit agency, was injured around 11:25 p.m. Tuesday during a robbery aboard her bus on Green Forest Drive at Gay Drive.

Bus 2595, on Route 9, stopped when a man who had been a passenger stabbed the driver. Royston was treated for her injuries at Atlanta Medical Center and released.
