The Atlanta City Council’s Finance/Executive Committee on Wednesday approved a plan to put six surveillance cameras in Piedmont Park.

Councilwoman Anne Fauver, whose district includes the park, wants to take $49,113 from her council expense account to pay for three cameras. The other three would be funded by the Piedmont Driving Club.

The cameras would provide better security in the park, supporters say. A 43-year-old man was stabbed to death in the park in May.

The entire council is scheduled to vote on the matter Monday.
