State School Superintendent John Barge is visiting three Atlanta-area schools Friday that have been recognized as 2012 Georgia Schools of Excellence in Student Achievement.

KIPP STRIVE Academy in Atlanta and DeKalb Early College Academy in Stone Mountain were honored for their progress on the state’s College and Career Ready Performance Index, while Hembree Springs Elementary in Roswell earned praise for its high level of performance on the CCRPI.

In all, 28 schools in the state were named as schools of excellence, and Barge plans to visit the rest of these schools throughout the year.
