North Georgia’s summer combination of heat and isolated storms will linger through the holiday weekend.

The rain isn’t expected to move in until the afternoon, so it might be best to plan those outdoor activities early in the day.

“It looks like we’ll see a lot of sunshine early on,” Deon said.

By mid-afternoon, however, showers will start to develop south of Atlanta before making their way north, according to the latest forecast.

While pop-up storms are possible, the chance of rain is only 20% on Sunday afternoon.

“Early next week, rain becomes more widespread and temps will be cooler as a result,” Deon said, calling for heavy showers on Monday and Tuesday afternoon.

Drivers won’t have to deal with much construction on Atlanta’s interstates this weekend. The Georgia Department of Transportation is suspending most roadwork and restricting lane closures statewide through 10 p.m. Sunday for the holiday.
