Following three pubic hearings, the Sugar Hill City Council voted recently to adopt a millage rate of 3.8 mills for 2016, which will require an increase in property taxes by 7.07 percent. This increase is a result of property reassessments and not an increase in the millage rate.

Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate would be no more 3.54 mills. City documents indicate Sugar Hill’s millage rate has remained unchanged at 3.8 mills since at least 2011. The anticipated increase in property tax revenue will result in the city receiving a net tax revenue increase of $301,435, an 11.97 percent increase over 2015.
