The Georgia Attorney General, along with other state and community leaders held a forum in East Cobb County to educate, students and parents about the growing problem of sex trafficking. The forum was sponsored by the Rocky Mount Counseling Department and the Rocky Mount PTA & Foundation.
“Some of the studies have shown that the majority of buyers come from suburbia,” said Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens, “We are talking all of suburbia.”
“Now we are learning it is not just a downtown problem , it’s not just a South side problem, the more we educate communities on what to look for then the more they are actually finding it,” said Jennifer Swain, youthSpark.
In January, the Cobb County District Attorney, along with the Georgia Attorney General’s Office, indicted Khiry Price, for alleged trafficking of young girls, out of a motel in Austell.
The GBI says they get about 250 tips a month about child porn, or sex trafficking, but probably the most frightening for parents; experts say predators are using social media to recruit the girls.
“You do have that going on in the back of your mind, as a parents, what is really going on do I need to check their devices,” said Robin O’Keefe, a parent.
