Heavy storms and lightning caused both Delta Airlines and Airtran Airways to cancel some flights Monday night, officials said.
A spokeswoman from Delta said it had to cancel approximately 30 flights, but all customers were re accommodated for flights out tonight or tomorrow.
An Airtran spokeswoman said the airline had to cancel five flights, for which all customers were rerouted for flights tonight or tomorrow.
Nearly all flights to and from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport were delayed between 4 and 8 p.m., officials said.
Kathleen Bergen, spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration Southern Region, said at 9:05 p.m. all flights headed to Atlanta were delayed by 3 hours and 18 minutes.
Bergen said Hartsfield was experiencing 1 hour and 45 minute departure delays for all flights.
"We should see significant improvements in the next 30 minutes," Bergen said.
According to Channel 2 Action News Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns, storms were expected to last through midnight.
