Decatur will repair a failed storm water pipe this week at Northern Avenue and West Ponce de Leon Avenue, weather permitting.

The failure, or rusting out, has created a 1,200 cubic foot sinkhole and damaged roadway, with the work considered an emergency due to the instability of the surrounding pavement. Fifty feet of the 60-year-old corrugated metal pipe will be replaced by a polyethylene pipe. Total cost is $37,680, with the work scheduled for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through at least Friday.
