Decatur’s downtown storm water improvements, which began in 2006, wraps up this month with the milling, rebuilding and repaving of North Candler Street, East Howard Avenue and Barry Street.

Work commences July 12 and should take two weeks, after which all these streets will reopen after being closed for nearly a year. The city will also add street lights, street furniture and litter cans to this area after the roads reopen to traffic.

West Howard, which runs behind the Arlo development from Trinity Place to North McDonough Street will reopen in mid to late September, according to Deputy City Manager Hugh Saxon.

This stretch, which has been closed for several years, will remain one-way west bound. But motorists can only access it by turning right if heading south on Trinity/North Candler. Motorists heading north after crossing the tracks at Trinity/North Candler can no long turn left onto West Howard.
