The Stone Mountain Community Improvement District has $34,000 invested in a new “green” plan taking off this month. The CID’s Board of Directors this week dedicated $34,000 to plant more than a hundred trees and shrubs throughout the Mountain Industrial Boulevard corridor. The CID will commence the project with a special Arbor Day planting ceremony 10:30 a.m. Friday near Star and Strikes at 1741 Mountain Industrial Blvd.

The greenery plantings will build on a tree-planting effort, completed earlier this year, to enhance the area’s visual appeal and clearly define a gateway to the district’s main corridor.

The landscaping investment is a second round of reforestation in the CID this year. Ryland Homes installed 130 Sugar Maples and Crepe Myrtles in the CID in partnership with DeKalb Clean and Beautiful and the DeKalb Department of Planning and Sustainability.

Additionally, the CID will continue to work with DeKalb County this summer to address damaged infrastructure such as broken curbs and drainage spaces.
