The Stockbridge City Council named Anthony Ford as its mayor pro tem at its Jan. 11 regular meeting, and the two-year councilman will preside over the council meetings until a new mayor is named.

Tim Thompson resigned as mayor during a December meeting.

The council announced that, following citizen input at a Jan. 7 town hall meeting, the city is requesting approval from the state legislature to call a special election for the mayor’s seat.

Previous discussions about the council possibly appointing a mayor to serve the remaining two years of Thompson’s term were met by resistance from citizens as well as the three new council members who were sworn in at the beginning of the year.
