Stockbridge Mayor Tim Thompson resigned late Monday night in the middle of a city council meeting. He got up and left the dais at approximately 11 p.m. after announcing his resignation.

Mayor Pro Tem Alphonso Thomas chaired the remainder of the meeting.

The council was considering an action in response to the latest incident involving Thompson and a City Hall staff member, in this case City Clerk Vanessa Holiday.

Within the past month the council concluded an investigation into Thompson’s behavior while in office stemming from a separate incident in March.

There has been no word yet on how Thompson’s seat will be filled, as he had two years remaining on his term. Three new council members are set to take office in January.
