Stockbridge council opposes creation of new city

A movement is underway to create a new city in Henry County known as Eagle’s Landing.
The Stockbridge City Council passed a resolution recently with a unanimous vote opposing the proposed creation of the city of Eagle’s Landing.
Stockbridge officials stated that very little information has been compiled to justify the formation of the new city and the proposed Eagle’s Landing boundaries would absorb some existing portions of Stockbridge, which its leaders said would be “unprecedented in the state of Georgia.”
The Eagle’s Landing Educational Research Committee is pursuing the idea and has been formed as a nonprofit to advocate for incorporation. According to its website (www.elerc.org), a bill was introduced Feb. 27 by state Sen. Rick Jeffares that would lead to incorporation and the formation of a city charter.
