State: Cobb mother accused of killing kids had no history of abuse

Child welfare officials say they had no history with the mother accused of killing her three children, then herself, inside the family’s Cobb County apartment.

Department of Health Services spokeswoman Ashley Fielding told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the state had never been asked to investigate Kisha S. Holmes, 35. A maintenance worker at the Walton Crossing apartment complex in Austell discovered the bodies of Holmes and her children — 10-year-old Justin Medina, his 4-year-old brother and 9-month-old sister — Tuesday morning.

"Justin was a delightful young man," his principal, Rebecca Jenkins, wrote in a letter sent to parents at Sanders Elementary School. "He was happy, friendly, and always had a kind word for others. We are deeply saddened by his passing and will miss him greatly."

Cobb police said Wednesday they were still awaiting autopsy findings to determine the cause of death. An incident report released by police offered no additional details about the investigation.

Address records showed Holmes previously lived in Stone Mountain and had served in the Marine Corps.
