A plan to build a tunnel for safer golf cart access to the Starr’s Mill school complex in southern Peachtree City has been sent back for review. On July 12 the Fayette County Board of Commissioners directed the public works department, which had already been working with the board of education on site plans, to come up with alternatives that could include a bridge rather than a tunnel. The suggested placement of the tunnel, which was to be built using $900,000 of SPLOST funds, had been moved closer to the intersection of Redwine Road and Robinson Road to avoid underground utility lines, and to direct cart traffic away from car and bus traffic. Commissioner Steve Brown raised concerns about connectivity to the Wilshire Pavilion shopping center and subdivisions closer to SR 74. A new and likely more costly proposal could be presented within 30-60 days.
