Soggy, stormy forecast delays weekend roadwork in Cobb County

If there’s a silver lining in the dark clouds expected to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms to metro Atlanta most of the weekend, it’s this: The soggy forecast has prompted road crews to cancel planned work that would have shut down several ramps in the area of I-75 and I-285 in Cobb County.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting an 80 percent chance of rain late in the day on Friday, a 70 percent chance of rain Saturday and a 60 percent chance of rain Sunday.

The heaviest rain and storms will likely move through metro Atlanta Saturday night into early Sunday, she said.

Highs will in the 50s and low 60s, with lows in the 40s.

The rain could put a damper on the 3rd annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Muscle Walk, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at Turner Field. Luckily for participants, the walk itself will take place on the concourse ramps that take fans to their seats.

Other weekend events include the Hawks-Trailblazers game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Philips Arena.
