Chism stopped a car on E. Main Street on Sept. 29, 2017, for an equipment violation, according to the city. A K-9 on the scene indicated that narcotics were present without entering the vehicle.

When Chism searched the car, he found 45,000 ecstasy pills in addition to marijuana and two handguns, according to a city release. One of the guns was stolen, the city said. The driver and passenger of the car were both charged with trafficking ecstasy, possession of marijuana, possession of drug-related objects, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving.

Chism was presented the award at the July 9 Snellville City Council meeting after being honored at the NCEA’s annual conference in Denver this past April.
