For the next six months, unrestricted distribution of handbills will be allowed in Smyrna.

During Monday’s City Council meeting, Smyrna City Attorney Scott Cochran explained this change is the result of a lawsuit that has been brought against the city over this ordinance.

The Smyrna City Council repealed Monday two sections of the city code on handbill distribution in public places and penalties.

Also, the Council has suspended all enforcement of the remaining provisions regarding handbill distribution for six months to allow legal review and consideration by Mayor Max Bacon and the City Council.
