The Smyrna City Council will vote Monday on a motion to extend health and other benefits to spouses of employees in same-sex marriages. The meeting will be 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 2800 King St., Smyrna. Cobb’s five cities already comply with a federal requirement to provide retirement survivor benefits to employee couples in legally recognized, same-sex marriages. Smyrna is the first Cobb city to consider extending employee benefits for same-sex couples.
