Two armed robbers are on their way to prison, one of them for the rest of his life, officials with the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office said.

A jury Thursday convicted Tomdrick Lenor Cromer, 31, of Smyrna, of armed robbery, aggravated assault, two firearms-possession charges and a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass.

Immediately after the verdict, Cobb Superior Court Judge Reuben M. Green sentenced Cromer as a repeat offender to life in prison without parole, plus the mandatory 30 years on the firearms charges.

His co-defendant, James Chad Roney, 45, of California, pleaded guilty Monday to armed robbery and possession of cocaine and was sentenced to 20 years with 10 years to serve in prison.

Cromer was already a convicted felon. In December 2013, he robbed a man outside a bowling alley at gunpoint and fired a shot at the victim’s friend. Roney drove the getaway car that belonged to Cromer’s then-girlfriend, but left the scene when Cromer began shooting.

After serving almost a decade in prison for a 2002 armed robbery in South Carolina, Cromer came to Georgia and within two years of his release committed the same offense release, Kimberly Isaza, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said.

Assistant District Attorney Courtney Veal credits the conviction to the “outstanding” detectives with the Marietta Police Department. “Without their hard work, Cromer may have never been identified as the man who robbed and shot at these victims,” Veal said.

“Tomdrick Cromer is a true danger to society and lacks regard for the trauma that he has inflicted on multiple innocent victims in his lifetime,” Veal said. “His sentence ensures that he will never again have the ability to terrorize or bring fear to our community.”
