A forecast of overnight rain followed by cool temperatures on Saturday has prompted the state Department of Transportation to again postpone scheduled weekend repaving on the Downtown Connector.

Uncooperative weather has forced crews to call off the road work on four of the past five weekends.

Officials with the DOT said the top layer of asphalt cannot be put down in the rain or when temperatures are below 60 degrees. The rain should end overnight, but highs on Saturday are only expected to be around 60, with lows in the 40s.

The DOT will be closing one left lane of the Connector in each direction between Fulton Street and Freedom Parkway nightly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for crews to upgrade signs along the interstate, but DOT spokesman Paul Marshall said the closures "shouldn't be much of a disruption."

With Georgia Tech and the Falcons both playing on the road this weekend, there are also no major sporting events to jam downtown streets this weekend. The Trashers play at 7 p.m. Saturday at Philips Arena.

The only major entertainment event is an AC/DC concert at 8 p.m. Friday at Phlips.
