Cobb County firefighters worked to put out hot spots for hours on a raging house fire that sent smoke billowing over a large part of the county.

Callers flooded the 911 center about the heavy smoke around 8 a.m. Firefighters found the large old home was unoccupied but fully engulfed by flames.

Because the home was well off Lost Mountain Road, they called in five engines and dozens of firefighters to deal with it. And the calls kept coming.

"With it so far, you know 300 feet off the road, like it's difficult. All people could see was smoke and there was a lot of smoke and fire so obviously a lot of people called it in not knowing where it was coming from," said Denell Boyd with the Cobb County Fire Department.

An arson investigator planned to look at the cause. The property apparently recently sold for a planned subdivision.
