Summertime heat and humidity will keep the threat for thunderstorms around Monday and all week long, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
"We'll have morning lows in the low to mid 70s, with afternoon highs in the low 90s," Nitz said. "The most likely time for thunderstorm development will come late in the afternoon through the evening hours each day."
The weekend rain was a welcomed cool-down from weeks up upper 90s and 100-plus temperatures, but the storms that were spawned left their share of damage in parts of metro Atlanta, including flooding. The city of Atlanta vowed Saturday to get to the bottom of what caused severe flooding in homes along Atlanta Avenue near Turner Field.
The rainy weather also put a damper on some of the major events around town.
"We keep the 90s and scattered showers and storms Tuesday and Wednesday," Nitz said. The rain chance is 20 to 30 percent through Thursday. Nighttime lows will be in the low to mid 70s.
The major events around town that were affected by rain include the National Black Arts Festival at Centennial Olympic Park and the Atlanta Braves' weekend home stand against National League rivals the New York Mets.
The Atlanta International Gift and Home Furnishing Market is under way at AmericasMart in Downtown Atlanta, as is the BB&T Atlanta [tennis] Open at Atlantic Station.
On Sunday a Microsoft convention began at the Georgia World Congress Center and will go through next week.
