The family of Abbey Hebert received a plaque in her honor and in her memory Thursday for her dedication to special needs youths in her hometown of Acworth.

Also during Thursday’s meeting of the Acworth Board of Aldermen, a $2,953 check was given by the Hebert family to Covering the Bases, providing funds for the Horizon League for young special needs athletes.

They play on Horizon Field, a synthetic surface which allows these children to play organized sports for which the Acworth Police Department has raised more than $150,000.

Many other tributes were paid to Hebert as her generosity and kindnesses were recalled.

In November, the Allatoona High School student, 17, allegedly was stabbed to death by her step-cousin Olivia Smith, 18, who was indicted Jan. 28 by a Cobb County grand jury on four charges, including malice murder and felony murder.
