Flood warnings have been posted calling for moderate to major flooding on several local creeks and rivers:
* Chattahoochee River - The river's level near Vinings was at 25.88 feet just before noon Tuesday after cresting at 28.1 feet overnight. Flood stage is 14 feet, and anything above 20 feet is considered "major" flooding. The river was expected to slowly recede, falling below flood stage on Wednesday. The level overnight was the second highest on record, exceeded only by a crest of 29 feet in 1919.
* Peachtree Creek - The creek's 9:45 a.m. measurement at Atlanta was 11.13 feet. The creek's crest Monday of 23.89 feet was surpassed only a crest of 25.8 feet in 1919. Flood stage is 13 feet, and anything above 20 feet is a major flood.
* Nancy Creek - The creek at Atlanta had receded to 2.92 feet by late Tuesday morning after cresting on Monday at 14.69 feet, 4.69 feet above flood stage.
* Sweetwater Creek -- The latest available level on the creek at Austell was 18.21 feet on Monday afternoon, 8.21 feet above floood stage. The creek is expected to crest on Tuesday at 21.2 feet, the second-highest level on record, and 11.2 feet above the mark for a major flood.
* Big Creek -- The creek's level at Alpharetta Tuesday morning was 11.47 fee, which is 4.47 feet above flood stage. The creek was predicted to crest later Tuesday just below the 12 feet, the mark for a major flood.
* Yellow River - The river's level at Conyers was at 21.5 feet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, 10.5 feet above flood stage. Anything over 20 feet is considered a major flood.
* Suwanee Creek -The creek's level at Suwanee was 10.12 feet late Tuesday morning after cresting on Monday at 14.3 feet, more than two feet above the record crest of 12.04 feet set in 1996. The creek should continue to recede, and drop below the flood stage of 8 feet on Wednesday.
*Lakes Lanier, Allatoona: Lake Lanier rose 1.5 feet in the past 24 hours, and Lake Allatoona rose a stunning 8.33 feet, the Corps of Engineers reported. Lanier is now at 1067.52, 3.5 feet below full pool It has risen 3.5 feet in the past week. Allatoona is now 10 feet above full pool, but still 10 feet below flood level.
