The Lawrenceville City Council recently approved the purchase of nine sets of field force gear and 100 40mm gas and smoke canisters for crowd and or riot control purposes. Both purchases are made possible using asset forfeiture funds, or funds obtained by confiscating proceeds or equipment resulting from criminal activity.
The field force equipment purchased from the lowest of three bidders, Smyrna Police Distributors, for $8,523 includes tactical gear like expandable batons, face guards, gas masks, gloves, upper body/shoulder and thigh/groin protectors.
The purchase of 40mm gas and smoke canisters costing $2,120 will be made with the lowest of three bidders, Chief Supply out of Charlotte, N.C.
