A somewhat hidden pocket of Grant Park has for years remained fairly quiet, but the revitalization of six old industrial warehouses there is likely to change all that soon.
The Beacon this week obtained final permit approvals necessary to start construction, according to developer Phillippe Pellerin of Pellerin Real Estate.
The 110,000-square-foot property consists of buildings, built in the ‘50s and ‘60s, located on both sides of a road that dead ends into an undeveloped part of the Atlanta Beltline.
The development is coming at a time when Grant Park — a largely residential neighborhood known as the home of Zoo Atlanta — has seen new businesses attracting people to the area. Eventide Brewing, Mediterranea and a Highland Yoga outpost have opened within a few blocks of The Beacon over the past couple of years.
Pellerin's goal is for The Beacon project to be fully operational by early 2018. Despite how the exterior looks now, similar area redevelopments such as Krog Street Market and Ponce City Market make it easy to envision how different the property could be after a little work.
Thirteen tenants are already open (all across the street from the main buildings at 1039 Grant Street SE), and another 13 have been signed.
