Atlanta police have identified the armed security guard who admitted that he shot and killed a man in an Atlantic Station parking garage Friday as the investigation into the death continues.

Kenneth Macauly, the on-duty armed security guard, immediately told responding officers that he shot the man, whose name has not been released.

Atlanta police spokesman Gregory Lyons said no one has been arrested or charged.

Macauly told police he was on a routine patrol on the third level of the parking deck of a 17th Street apartment building when he encountered a man acting suspiciously about 2 a.m. Friday.

“He did not believe this person should be there,” Atlanta police Capt. Paul Guerrucci told Channel 2 Action News. “He indicated there were some suspicious circumstances around this individual and the encounter escalated into a shooting where the security guard shot and killed the individual.”

Police told Channel 2 that the man, who was in his 30s, did not live in the apartments where the shooting occurred.

Tony Wilbert, spokesman for Atlantic Station Town Center management, released a statement on the shooting:

“Atlantic Station Town Center management is aware of a deadly shooting that occurred in the parking deck of the Park District apartment community. Though Park District is part of the overall 138-acre Atlantic Station mixed-use development, the Park District community and its parking deck are not part of the Town Center shopping and entertainment district. Park District is owned by a national investment firm. However, we will continue to monitor the situation and work with Atlanta Police as they investigate this incident. Our hearts go out to the families of all of those involved.”
