The search continued Friday for a boater reported missing Monday on Lake Lanier.
Authorities said a boat was spotted Monday night going in circles on the lake with no one on board.
Sgt. Greg Colson with the state Department of Natural Resources said a caller about 10 p.m. Monday reported that a jon boat was “doing circles, nobody in it, just going around and around” near Bald Ridge Creek in Forsyth County.
When authorities arrived, they found the boat on the bank, out of gas.
Colson said late Friday morning that Friday’s search effort included a DNR helicopter, a canine unit and crews from the DNR, Forsyth and Hall counties using “side-scan sonar” to determine areas to send divers into the water.
He said divers and other personnel from several agencies searched the lake throughout the day Tuesday and Wednesday for the 47-year-old man believed to have been operating the boat. Authorities used divers, helicopters and cadaver-sniffing dogs in the search.
He said the search was concentrated on an area of the lake about the size of a football field and 80 feet deep.
The missing boater’s name has not been released.
