Scottish Rite to make repairs after weekend water leak

No patients at Scottish Rite were impacted or transferred during the water leak, according to a Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta spokeswoman.

Officials at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital are focused on repairs after a sprinkler line on the second floor broke over the holiday weekend, a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Water that leaked from the broken line shortly before noon Sunday impacted portions of the first floor and the basement. The leak was contained immediately, according to CHOA public relations manager Jessica Pope.

“Our clinical and operations teams mobilized immediately to contain the situation and activate contingency plans,” Pope said in a statement. “All services are operational and clinical care has not been impacted.”

No patients at Scottish Rite were impacted or transferred during the water leak, but some patients referred from other hospitals were being directed to other CHOA locations over the weekend. Scottish Rite was no longer redirecting referral patients Tuesday, Pope said.

“A majority of the damage occurred in non-patient areas,” Pope said. “We are currently focused on repairs.”

Last month, a burst water pipe at Grady Memorial Hospital flooded three floors and temporarily closed the emergency room. About 150 patients were transferred to other medical centers.

The hospital, which is Atlanta's largest Level 1 trauma center, has announced plans to gut and rebuild the three affected floors. Those areas will be out of commission most of the year, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.
