Decatur’s school board begins its search for a new superintendent while also meeting with city commissioners for a rare joint session during April’s final week. The board will interview one or more search firms during a work session 8-11:30 a.m. April 24 at the Central Office/Beacon Municipal Center, 125 Electric Avenue—an early step in a nationwide search for replacing Superintendent Phyllis Edwards.
The joint work session is 6 p.m., April 27 at the City Commission Meeting Room, 509 N. McDonough St., with the board presenting its case for putting a $75 million general obligation bond on the November ballot. The commission, however, won’t vote on the bond until May at the earliest. After the joint session, the board returns to Central Office for an executive session (not open to the public) that may end with an announcement of a search firm.
