Several thunderstorms ripped their way through the Atlanta area Wednesday, leaving a small trail of destruction in their path.
Channel 2 Action News reported a storm destroyed more than half a dozen mobile homes in the Tyrone area of Fayette County.
Fayette was one of several metro-area counties that were issued severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings Wednesday, all of which ended late in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm watch as well as several warnings were issued by the NWS for counties across north Georgia — including metro Atlanta — and heavy rain fell in the area. Gwinnett County was under a flash flood warning until early in the evening.
Several trees were reported down in Gwinnett, including one that fell on a house on Nathan Court in Lilburn. A lightning strike caused a fire at the Delmar Gardens nursing home in Gwinnett, and nearly 200 residents were evacuated to another wing of the facility, Channel 2 said. No injuries were reported.
Georgia Power reported electricity outages throughout the Atlanta area.
