Sandy Springs has announced public hearings on a millage rate for the coming year that would remain 4.731 mils – unchanged since the city’s incorporation, and representing a 1.07 percent increases in property taxes over the rollback millage rate.

The first hearing is set for 6 p.m. Aug. 23 in the City Hall Council Chambers, 7840 Roswell Road.

State law requires a rollback millage rate to be computed, reflecting what the rate would be to collect the same amount of revenues as the previous year after reassessments.

If a city sets a millage rate higher than the rollback, the law requires three public hearings. Additional hearings on the Sandy Springs rate are scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Aug. 30 at City Hall.

Earlier this summer, the City Council set a tentative $103.5 million budget for fiscal 2017.
