Sandy Springs will pay $1.8 million for a roughly half-acre parcel that could be part of a future, second phase of the City Springs downtown redevelopment.

The City Council on Tuesday evening approved a purchase and sale agreement to acquire an auto repair business and its land at 151 Hilderbrand Drive. The property is on the corner of Hilderbrand and Blue Stone Road, immediately north of the Heritage Sandy Springs historical museum and park.

The seller is Lawrence A. Burdett, doing business as Buckhead Motor Works, according to the purchase agreement. The deal is to close May 12, and the seller can continue to occupy the property rent-free “for the sole purpose of conducting and winding down the business through Aug. 21, 2020,” the agreement says.

The site is one block south of City Springs, a $229 million, mixed-use development encompassing Sandy Springs City Hall, a performing arts center, restaurants, shops, apartments and a city green.
