The Sandy Springs City Council has approved an intergovernmental agreement with Gwinnett County to widen Spalding Drive from Winters Chapel Road to River Exchange Drive and replace a bridge over Crooked Creek.

Spalding runs from North Fulton to Gwinnett counties, and the work will be coordinated by Gwinnett, Sandy Springs and Peachtree Corners. The Spalding Drive Widening Project is part of Gwinnett’s 2017 SPLOST program.

Total project cost is $10.56 million. Sandy Springs’ share will be an estimated $1.05 million for construction, $12,850 for two public information open houses, and $250,000 for right-of-way acquisitions within city limits.

As part of the agreement with Gwinnett, a multi-use path will be constructed on the south side of Spalding – paid for by Sandy Springs TSPLOST funds – and a sidewalk, on the north side, Sandy Springs said. The sidewalk will connect with existing walks on Holcomb Bridge Road and provide better connections to Crooked Creek Park and surrounding neighborhoods.
