The Sandy Springs City Council has approved buying the outdoor stage at the City Green from the company that had leased it to the city.

The stage, intended to be semi-permanent for the outdoor event season, was completed last August and proved to be “an overwhelming success,” Assistant City Manager Jim Tolbert said in a report to the council.

“After further review for cost savings, staff was asked to request a proposal to purchase this leased system,” Tolbert said. “The proposal includes having a weather protection system designed to be in place the entire season, (and) would provide for a high wind action plan as well as several other adjustments to accommodate the change in use.”

Atlanta Rigging & Staging Services quoted the city $298,654 to purchase and adjust the staging for permanent use. About $85,000 had been budgeted for the stage, and the city agreed to increase the budget by $245,000 out of the capital contingency fund to cover the difference as well as additional costs for the stage to be left up year-round.
