After a nearly two-month delay over concerns of worsening traffic in the Pill Hill area of Sandy Springs, the City Council has approved a medical office park’s plan to build a 450-car parking garage.

Duke Realty Corp., representing the owner of Center Pointe at 1100 Johnson Ferry Road, sought permission to build the deck to serve tenants of the complex. The 13.7-acre property has two connected medical office buildings, one six stories tall and the other 11 stories tall, and 1,325 parking spaces. The new deck would create a net 346 new spaces.

The City Council on June 21 deferred action on the request, asking Center Pointe to explore other solutions. At last week’s Council meeting, Woody Galloway, attorney representing the property, discussed parking alternatives including partnering with Perimeter Connects to host tenant events, promoting use of MARTA including free and subsidized passes, and working with MARTA to add a bus stop on Peachtree Dunwoody Road.
