The Sandy Springs City Council has approved a $279,550 contract to have an engineering consultant design a realignment of the intersection of Boylston and Hammond drives.

Calyx|NV5 also is charged with designing additional streetscape improvements along Boylston from Hammond to Hilderbrand drives. Those improvements will include on-street parking, a sidewalk, pedestrian lighting and landscaping, staff said in a report to the council.

When completed, the project will provide a pedestrian connection to the City Springs area from Hammond Drive, staff said.

The city received three bids for the work, staff said. Though Calyx|NV5’s middle bid was higher than a $268,735 proposal from Clark Patterson Lee, “Calyx|NV5 included services that were missing from the consultant with the lowest quote … including geotechnical services and ROW staking,” staff said.

“Calyx|NV5 also presented a better understanding of complexities involved with designing a project with adjacent projects under active development,” staff said.
