The Sandy Springs City Council will hold a ceremony at its June 7 meeting noting its designation as a Purple Heart City and honoring recipients of the medal.

City officials plan to set up special signage at various places in the community and will celebrate Purple Heart Day each August under the program which dates from in 1932. The effort’s been spearheaded by Sandy Springs City Councilman John Paulson, a Marine veteran.

As the program kicks off, veterans who are recipients of a Purple Heart are invited to a special commemoration ceremony starting at 5 p.m. June 7 at city hall, 7840 Roswell Road, with dinner and a presentation scheduled.

Reservations: 770-206-1502.
