Sandy Springs has released for public hearings a fiscal 2018 budget that officials say offers the same millage rate as last year – 4.731 mills – while maintaining adequate reserves, ensuring a high level of public safety services, and providing capital funds to address a backlog of infrastructure projects.

The general fund, for general operations and working capital, would be approximately $106 million. Estimated general fund revenues are $91.8 million; the remaining $14.2 million draws from the prior year fund balance.

The general fund contains $17.4 million for city service contracts; $29.6 million for personnel and relate benefits; $30.5 million for operations and equipment; $17 million for capital improvement programs, and $11.4 million for special funds. All city employees may receive a 3 percent salary increase and would be eligible for additional bonuses based on job performance, officials said.

The first public hearing took place at the June 6 city council meeting, and the second and final hearing before the council vote is set for June 20.
