The long-awaited reconstruction of the Glenridge Drive-Roswell Road intersection is to start in June, with the Sandy Springs City Council tapping $376,000 in city reserves for the project.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is expected to begin construction in June and take about two years to finish, Sandy Springs Public Works Director Marty Martin told council members.
The project will eliminate the awkward angle at which Glenridge intersects Roswell Road, and provide adequate left-turn lanes for northbound and southbound traffic. “This realignment has potential to reduce the number of serious crashes at this intersection,” Martin wrote in a report to the council.
In related action, the council voted to approve the transfer of money out of the capital contingency fund to close a gap caused by the costs of relocating a Georgia Power utility pole, and installing decorative and propriety items requested by Sandy Springs.
