The Sandy Springs City Council has approved paying $750,000 to acquire a 6.58-acre tract with 370 feet of Chattahoochee River frontage.

The land, at 8901 North Island Ferry Road next to the Island Ferry Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, will be reserved for future park use, the city announced. The seller is Natalie Jane Roach, according to the purchase agreement.

Acquiring property within city limits that allows access to the river is a priority of Sandy Springs’ Next Ten Comprehensive Plan. “Acquisition of the subject property would provide valuable partnership opportunities with (the National Recreation Area) as we plan enhanced river access for city of Sandy Springs residents,” staff said in a report to the council.

Besides the purchase price, staff said it anticipates spending up to $100,000 on professional services and contingencies related to the acquisition. The costs will be covered the city's impact fee fund. Information: https://bit.ly/2U1Ee2h
